"Bullet Train" Likes Itself Too Much and Laughs at its Own Jokes

by John Zenoni

‘Bullet Train’ - good cast, ok film. That pretty much sums it up for me. This is one of those movies that likes itself too much and laughs at its own jokes, if that makes sense. With a film starring Brad Pitt, Sandra Bullock (don’t wear your hair like that EVER again, please), Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Brian Tyree Henry, Ryan Reynolds, Channing Tatum and Michael Shannon (unfortunately miscast in his role as The White Death, in my opinion), you would think that the film would have a lot to offer but it is really one, long drawn-out train ride with villains/assassins trying to kill each other in various ways all the while making cute and funny remarks at each other.

I will give credit to the screenwriter as the storyline is pretty ingenious in making its point about fate versus bad luck but it just wasn’t enough to save the film, in my opinion. Also the action scenes - of which there are plenty - are pretty good. But this is one train ride I would have preferred to have taken at home.
