John's Most Highly Anticipated Fall Movies

These are the movies I cannot wait to see based on their trailers:

8. Aquaman

I never thought I would say it but the trailer looks amazing!

7. Glass

Weird, scary, creepy - I am in!

6. Overlord

I cannot figure out what this is supposed to be but it looks good.

5. Peppermint

Ok, how many times has this type of movie been made?? But I still want to see what Jennifer Garner can do.

4. White Boy Rick

This looks so good and I am always in for something with Matthew McConaughey.

3. The Girl in the Spiders Web

I love the books with the character of Lisbeth Salander (one of the best female ‘action’ figures in my opinion) and cannot wait to see what this movie does - I hope I am not disappointed!

2. Bohemian Rhapsody

Queen is a classic rock group, one of my favs, so hope this does not let the fans down!

1. A Star is Born

This is by far the film that I am most anxious to see based on the trailer alone. I don’t know how anyone can watch it and not feel moved by it. So far I have read where people in Hollywood are raving about it so I hope it does not disappoint! It is going to be very hard to see it compared to the 1976 Babs/Kris version but I am going to try and not do that as the ‘76 version is a classic! Each will stand on its own I say! If nothing else it should have a great soundtrack!

"Searching" Might Be Best Enjoyed as a Rental

Well I decided to take a break from my normal daily routine this afternoon and snuck away to see the premiere of the new movie, ‘Searching.’ I was immediately sucked in by the movie trailer so was looking forward to checking out this flick. Well, let me tell you the only thing you will be ‘searching’ for are the 2 hours spent watching this film.

That is probably pretty harsh as there are some positives about it: 1) John Cho, who plays the father and main character in the film, does a great acting job, considering what he has to work with , 2) the film itself, directed by Aneesh Chaganty, is shot in a unique way in that it is almost all ‘online’ meaning that you are watching the father, who is very tech savvy, work his way through chat rooms, websites, etc. trying to find out who is daughter is and 3) there is a pretty good plot twist at the end.

The cons though are that Debra Messing, who plays a police detective, is totally out of character, while there are also some relationships not fully developed in the film so many holes are left open and again, the film is almost entirely shot ‘online’ so while different, it did get old after awhile. Overall it is an ok film for getting away and just going to the movies but it might be best enjoyed as a rental.

October 2018 Movie Trailers

Maybe redemption is possible for bottom-of-the-barrel movies. Peter Parker made up for 2007's Spider-Man 3 in 2016's Civil War and now Eddie Brock gets his shot -- in his very own origin story, no less. From what I can tell, Venom's gonna be the highlight at the cineplex this October.

Venom

Venom's only other appearance on the big screen was in Spider-Man 3 -- which was too terrible for words. But Tom Hardy made for one hell of a Bane in The Dark Knight Rises and now he's gonna be Eddie Brock. Plus, Sony's decided to go the Logan route and give Venom the freedom for an R-rating -- so it has potential. Since Venom's primarily a homicidal nut-job it'll be interesting to see how he's presented. Will it be an action version of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde? An updated version of A Nightmare on Elm Street 2? How big will Spidey's cameo be? We'll see.
