"Beckett" Review

by John Zenoni

Well I have to say that as much as I wanted to like Netflix’s and John David Washington’s ‘Beckett’, it was just too much in one film and confusing on top of that. This is my first time seeing JDW in anything and I do think he is a solid actor but I don’t think this was the best material for him to work with. While there were some good action scenes, some of it was just ridiculous, including the fact that he had a messed up arm, had been shot, was in a car wreck, had several fights and all kinds of other things but with all that he was still able to run and run AND run all over the city and manage to escape.

One over the top moment I have to mention is right toward the end where Beckett, even though he suffers from bad panic attacks and his arm is in a cast, is able to stand on the 3rd or 4th floor ledge of a parking garage, waiting and listening to the car of one of the bad guys, and then jumps just in time to land on top of the car. And yet he's able to get up without serious injuries.
Anyway, the crazy the thing about all this is I never really understood why he was being chased to begin with. In addition, the film was too long and definitely should have had some scenes cut. So needless to say while it does have some entertainment value, definitely don’t expect the best action hero/crime movie.
