"Aftermath" Stinks

by John Zenoni

Ok, I'm going to have to stop falling for headlines of reviews for shows on Netflix like, ‘This show has subscribers so freaked out’ because I'm beginning to see that this means the movie stinks. Ok, maybe stinks is a rather harsh word to use but in the case of this film that's not too far off. The film is ‘Aftermath’, based loosely on a true story, about a couple who are having marital trouble and decide to move to a new home for a fresh start. It just so happens that the house was recently ‘cleaned’ by the husband (he works as a crime scene remover) and he saw he could get it at a good price so approached the family (the sister and brother-in-law of the previous owners) about purchasing it. The wife is a fashion designer who is looking for someone to sell her clothes in fashion boutiques.
Well, it starts off not on the best note right away with the couple moving into a house that was the scene of a murder-suicide of a husband and wife. The wife immediately has a bad sense about the home and it starts off like a supernatural thriller. In that regard, there were a few creepy moments. But then the film takes a turn later on and it ends up not being anything supernatural but a man who lives in a section below the house. There were too many calls to the police, too many arguments between the husband and wife about the same thing and the ending just left things hanging in a way that I can't tell if was intended to mean someone else is down there or something supernatural really is in the house. Either way, I'm not getting what all the hoopla and noise is about with this one. It was ok but I could have watched something else.
