"Behind Her Eyes" Review

by John Zenoni

In the mood for a psychological thriller with a WOW twist of an ending? Then look no more as ‘Behind Her Eyes’ is the one to watch, currently playing on Netflix. Let me begin by saying that I read the book and recall thinking that it had one of the most insane endings to a novel that I had ever read. It's the same with the limited series as well as it stays true to the ending. It's not to say that the series is better than the book, because it is not, but it's still a good thriller nonetheless.
The story centers around a young divorcée, Louise, who lives in a flat in London with her young son, Adam. She works part-time for a new psychiatrist, David, whom she has yet to meet. One evening after work she ends up flirting and engaging in a goodnight kiss with a young, handsome guy and lo and behold what happens but he ends up being her new boss. As uncomfortable as it is when they see each other in the office the first time, Louise is convinced she'll have nothing else to do with him while David is smitten with Louise and wants to keep seeing her.
In the meantime, on a walk one afternoon Louise just happens to bump into a young lady on the street corner, literally, and to make up for the incident Louise agrees to a coffee with Adele. Come to find out - Who is Adele married to? None other than David. However, Louise doesn't let on to either that she is aware of their relationship as she has, yes, ended up having an affair with David and become friends with Adele as Adele is lonely, sad and has also helped Louise with her sleepwalking and night terrors.
This is where things get even more bizarre. Adele spent time in a clinic - I believe this is where she met David originally - after her mother and father were killed in a fire in their home. During the fire, Adele was ‘floating’, if you will, outside of her body. It's a technique that she learned from a fellow patient, a gay young man named Rob. Rob is a drug addict who came from a bad home but becomes quickly attached to Adele.
I really dare not say anymore as this friendship leads to many mysterious events in the remainder of the series, including that wild and crazy ending. This is definitely one that many people have opinions on and I can see why. I personally loved the ending but many hate it. I'll leave it up to you to decide.
