"The Bad Guys" Review

by John Zenoni

What a great animated feature with a good message to share. The film, ‘The Bad Guys’, is an absolute pleasure to watch and I am so grateful to have watched it - twice! - with my grandkids. While the animation itself isn't the best I have ever seen and some of the jokes are corny, the action and adventure and interaction between the characters makes up for it.
The bad guys consist of: Mr. Wolf (Sam Rockwell); his best friend, Mr. Snake (Marc Maron); Mr. Piranha (Anthony Ramos); Ms. Tarantula (Awkwafina) and Mr. Shark (Craig Robinson). Each has their own ‘bad’ specialty and get to display this plenty in the movie. A special mention is also due for the character, Diane Foxington (Zazie Beetz), who has a lot to do with bringing out the good side of the bad guys. While initially living up to their reputations of being scary, harmful creatures and taking things out on others, a chance encounter between Mr. Wolf and an old lady begins to turn them around. And their helping solve a crime committed by someone else, that no one would suspect, doesn't hurt. Which brings us to one of the positive messages - never judge a book by its cover. Also, helping others does make you feel good. This was an enjoyable family film that I definitely recommend.
