"Last Night in Soho" Review

by John Zenoni

Wow, what a heck of a movie! ’ Last Night in Soho’ is one of those films that pulls you in and you're just cruising along, enjoying the music, scenes, setting -- and then all of a sudden it takes a turn that throws you for a loop. Don’t even get me started on the ending that, yes, has a very big twist but I won't spoil it for anyone. I would go so far as to say that it's definitely up there with ‘The Others’ and ‘The Sixth Sense.’
Thomasin McKenzie plays Eloise, a young aspiring fashion designer who just so happens to be able to see dead people, including that of her mother, who passed away when she was seven. When she's accepted into a fashion school in London, she embraces the chance to better herself. What I love about her character is that she just happens to embrace all things 60’s, including music, which you hear plenty of on the soundtrack. Eloise isn't into her roommates and decides to rent a room off-campus. This is when the fun, or nightmare, depending on how you look at it, begins. Eloise begins to see a young singer from the 60’s, named Sandy, and follows her back in time, in her dreams?
This is when we begin to see incredible scenes (how some of the film work was done I do not know -- but it's incredible), fantastic imagery and sounds. You just feel like you're living back in that swinging 60’s era. Anya Taylor-Joy plays Sandy and she's also brilliant in her role. Between her and Eloise, these two take us on a wild ride for sure. The plot is tight and where the ending went a little bit easy in my opinion, it's still very good. Again, the twist! This is a must see! I had to post both posters as I love them both!
