Hollywood's come full circle in the last 45 years. Dolemite star Rudy Ray Moore got a long overdue, well-deserved and critically-acclaimed biopic and we got the latest in a long line of hit movies about killer sharks (which have all been inspired by Steven Spielberg's first big smash) in 2019.

A shoe-string budget and a dream transformed comedian Rudy Ray Moore into a movie icon. While everyone over the age of 30 had at least heard of his alter ego, Dolemite, years ago, the rest of America wasn't introduced to the kung-fu fighting pimp until Eddie Murphy brought his story to Netflix in a critically-acclaimed film in 2019.

John Hughes made a career -- and millions of dollars -- out of writing movies about Chicago area high school kids. But the greatest film revolving around a Chi-town high school had nothing to do with the Brat Pack and debuted a decade earlier than Weird Science, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, The Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink and Sixteen Candles. While Cochise, Preach and Pooter cut class just as much fun as Ferris does, their problems are a little more pressing than Sam's disappointing birthday.

47 Meters Down, The Shallows, Piranha, Orca and Crawl have all taken their shot at Jaws' crown. But 45 years later, the king of shark -- and other assorted sea monsters -- movies still reigns supreme. Even the Alien series is more or less Jaws in space.
