Now that Johnny Depp's hamming it up on the Caribbean again, it seemed like a good time to remind everyone that he can actually act. So we dusted off John's original review of Black Mass from 2015. Enjoy:
That movie was too much. The killing was crazy, although I have seen worse. But Johnny Depp NAILED it. I think this is his best performance in a movie to date. I told a couple of buddies of mine that I can see him getting an Oscar nom for the role.
The one guy that killed me though was the one who let Bulger kill his step-daughter. Horrible! Did you know that was Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith's daughter? She was a cutie...but I knew the minute she walked out of that bank, whelp, there she goes...Ha! First the guy abused her and then he ended up letting her get killed? I wonder what the wife thought about that...if she even knew at the time...crazy...
The other thing is why didn't Bulger go somewhere like South America or somewhere else outside of the U.S.? I you're going to go on the run...
Oh well, he was one mean bastard apparently and if you even looked at him wrong you were going to be killed. So glad he's away.
