2022 is something of a comeback year. Two famous pilots and a bunch of superheroes (and villains) will return to the big screen after long delays.
Morbius
Release Date: January 28
Marvel's second-most famous vampire (the most famous is Blade, of course) will be making his big screen debut in this origin story about Michael Morbius, a scientist who accidentally turns himself into a living bloodsucker after an attempt to cure himself of a rare illness results in unforeseen side effects.
Death on the Nile
Release Date: February 11
I've got no love for Agatha Christie but the 2017 film adaptation of her novel, Murder on the Orient Express, was better than anything she could've imagined and I'm hoping that this sequel falls into that same category.
Ambulance
Director Michael Bay brings his visual flair and particular brand of mayhem to a heist story involving millions of dollars.
The Batman
Release Date: March 4
Losing Ben Affleck as star and writer/director were tremendous blows to this project but with any luck, writer/director Matt Reeves feels the enormous pressure to fill his predecessor's shoes and lives up to the challenge. Of course, finding a suitable replacement for Batfleck in FRONT of the camera couldn't hurt either. Hopefully, Robert Pattinson is up to the job.
Maverick
Release Date: May 27
Producing a sequel to an iconic film which revisits iconic characters several years later is always a dicey proposition. As Rocky Balboa, Live Free or Die Hard and Blade Runner 2049 prove, it can absolutely be a worthwhile endeavor. But for every Creed there's a Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. The results mostly depend on the skill and approach of the director and writer.
Lightyear
Release Date: June 17
The co-lead of the Toy Story series, Buzz Lightyear, gets a toy origin story.
Black Adam
Release Date: July 29
Release Date: November 4
I once read a review in which the writer declared that speed-based superheroes were no good onscreen. But The Age of Ultron and even Days of Future Past proved that notion wrong. And I, personally, always disliked Quicksilver until Ultron. I've never really liked The Flash either, to be honest. But I never had anything against his powers -- my issues were always with his costume and his characterization. Well, Marvel made their speed demon work. Hopefully, DC can do the same. Justice League wasn't a good advertisement for this movie. But the speedster will be joined by two Batmen (Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck). So we'll see.
Release Date: November 23
