I am a huge fan of the Predator movies, but more so the first and second ones. The other movies, including Alien vs. Predator, couldn’t live up to their predecessors, but they were decent. Prey is the best Predator movie I’ve seen in a long time.
This film takes place in the Great Plains during the early 1700’s. It’s centered around a Comanche tribe and a young female warrior named Naru (Amber Midthunder). Next to her brother, Taabe, she is the most skilled hunter and warrior of the tribe, but still has to prove herself. For obvious reasons, she’s not taken seriously when she notices strange-looking tracks and the hunters become the hunted. As if dealing with wild animals and a Predator isn’t enough, they run across some Buffalo Poachers. But that’s when things kick into high gear and the hunters become warriors.
This movie did an excellent job showing the Predator as a hunter and not some alien on the loose wreaking havoc on every armed, unsuspecting person. The coming-of-age storyline felt appropriate for a prequel and a good start to the first installment of new Predator movies. I’d recommend watching this one even if you haven’t seen any of the other movies.
