"Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas" Review

by John Zenoni

Ok - how many people have seen this movie? I loved it as a kid and it brings back so many good and fond memories. Is it mushy and all soft and tender-hearted? Yes, and for that I loved it! We need more of that in this world today! Released in 1977, it's another Jim Henson (famous for The Muppets in case anyone has to ask) classic!
Set in the country, "Emmet and Ma Otter are very poor, but they are very happy and talented singers. Christmas is around the corner, and they both want to get the other a very special present. The prize in the talent show is $50. Both Emmet and Ma get a song ready for the competition; Emmet forms a jug band, and Ma practices alone, to vie with the Riverbottom Gang.”
The music is so good and the lessons taught are just amazing. If you haven't seen this one, I highly recommend.
