The New "Creed II" Trailer is Here and It's Fire

Related image

In case you still haven't seen the first Creed, it features the son (Adonis Creed) of Rocky Balboa's rival-turned-friend, Apollo, and his struggle to come to terms with living in his legendary father's shadow while pursuing a professional boxing career. Adonis' pops died in the ring in Rocky IV -- the one in which the "Italian Stallion" fought the roided-up Russian. And guess what? That very same Russian, who delivered the fatal punches to Apollo, will appear in Creed 2. Yep, Dolph Lundgren is making a return to the Rocky series.

The down-side is that Creed director Ryan Coogler was so busy overseeing Black Panther that he didn't return to write the script (or direct). Instead, Sylvester Stallone wrote the screenplay. But if the trailer's any indication, the movie won't disappoint.

December 2018 Movie Trailers

Related image

December may be the month of redemption. Aquaman will attempt to make up for the DCEU's lowest point, 2017's Justice League. And Bumblebee will try to right The Transformers franchise's sinking ship. We'll also see the cinematic debut of the Black Spider-Man.

Mary Poppins Returns

Related image

It's hard to imagine that Emily Blunt has much of a shot at filling Julie Andrews' shoes. But Disney has been prepping this thing for awhile. Mary Poppins references popped up in two of the studio's big hits last year (Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and The Last Jedi). And Star Wars' usual release slot was cleared for Mary Poppins Returns' arrival -- which contributed to Solo's legendary failure. Will MPR justify all of the hype and upheaval? We'll see.

Bumblebee

Related image

Bumblebee is the first live-action Transformers movie to not be directed by Michael Bay, which is probably for the best given that each of the four sequels is worse than the movie that preceded it. It's also the first Transformers prequel, which suggests a change (a much-needed one) in direction for the series. If for no other reason, Bumblebee may be worth watching for the chance to see Bumblebee and fan-favorite character Starscream rocking their original looks.

Entourage, a partly-satirical television show about a fictional movie star (Vincent Chase) and his oldest friends, featured said movie star headlining a biopic about billionaire drug-trafficker Pablo Escobar. Before portraying Escobar, Chase took on the role of Aquaman. Both movies were chosen in order to illustrate Hollywood's tendency to scrape the bottom-of-the-barrel in terms of subject matter after having exhausted the most popular figures of a given genre. Since then, various real-life movies and television shows have been released about the deceased kingpin. One of which, Narcos, is among the best shows of 2015 and 2016. So maybe Mr. H2O has the goods as well. But after Justice League, that looks a whole lot less likely.

November 2018 Movie Trailers

Image result for creed 2 poster

Good news, Rocky fans. Creed, which is probably the best of the series and unquestionably brought the franchise back from the dead, has a sequel. The Creed follow-up, Rocky 8 if you're counting, is scheduled to hit theaters November 21 -- just in time for Thanksgiving.

Creed II

Coming to theaters in November...

In case you still haven't seen the first Creed, it features the son (Adonis Creed) of Rocky Balboa's rival-turned-friend, Apollo, and his struggle to come to terms with living in his legendary father's shadow while pursuing a professional boxing career. The down-side is that Creed director Ryan Coogler won't be returning to write the script (or direct). Instead, Sylvester Stallone will write the story. He wrote Rocky and Rocky Balboa (the second-best movie in the series). That's not a bad resume but the problem is that he's apparently never had any familiarity with genuine Black culture. For instance, two of the African-American antagonists were named Clubber Lang and Mason Dixon. FOH.

The First Look of Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker Has Been Released

Earlier today, writer/director/producer Todd Phillips (of The Hangover fame) posted released the first image of Joaquin Phoenix in full make-up as the title character in the upcoming movie Joker. The 1980s-set origin story, which is unconnected to the DCEU, will feature the arch-criminal as stand-up comic Arthur Fleck who becomes a sociopathic killer. Producer Martin Scorsese has since left the project but Robert DeNiro (who portrayed an unhinged comedian in 1982's The King of Comedy) will appear as a talk show host alongside Brett Cullen as Thomas Wayne -- father of Bruce "the Batman" Wayne. No word yet on whether or not the famed vigilante will make an appearance.

The famous villain, most recently portrayed by Jared Leto in 2016's Suicide Squad and most memorably brought to life by Heath Ledger 10 years ago in The Dark Knight, will hit multiplexes again on October 4, 2019.

"Alpha" Micro Review

by John Z.

What a surprise I encountered with the movie ‘Alpha.’ This is a great film that kept me so engrossed I could not get up and leave my seat. I did not expect to find it so enjoyable. It is a beautifully shot film that speaks to everyone about love, faith, courage, respect and honor. I did not know any of the actors in this film but they all did a great job, especially the young actor who played the role of ‘Keda.’ This is one film that is for everyone!

Carrie Fisher hadn't started working on the movie prior to her death and Lucasfilm's vowed to not use a CGI stand-in. So Princess Leia may be killed off off-screen. Or may not appear. And Lando Calrissian will definitely appear and probably be killed on-screen. I just hope JJ Abrams undoes all of the ridiculousness that Rian Johnson wrote into the hot garbage formally known as The Last Jedi. And that Kylo Ren keeps his mask on and no ewoks show up.
