“Before the Coffee Gets Cold” by Toshikazu Kawaguchi is a charming, emotionally charged novel that I really enjoyed. It's not long at all but that's definitely one of its positives. The story captures and focuses on just a few central characters and wraps things up in a nice way. It definitely makes you wonder what you would do if given the chance to go back in time or to the future. That's what the few people we are introduced to in this story have a chance to do and, of course, each does take part in this time travel, for different reasons with different outcomes. The only issue is there are restrictions around what you can or cannot do when you make that choice. And yet those in the story do it anyway.
I think the majority of humans in all walks of life have things they wish they had done or said differently and wish we had a chance to make amends or changes. Perhaps though, it could be something just as simple as wanting to see a loved one again for a few minutes. I know that's what I would do if given the opportunity.
This was a great read and I thoroughly enjoyed it so I definitely recommend it.
