'Redeployment' is a collection of short stories about military personnel and veterans who served during the Iraq war, specifically in Operation Iraqi Freedom. The book is amazing in its brutal accounts of the military personnel who served and sacrificed themselves doing what they believed in.  Or, at least what they thought they believed in.  But the key to the stories is not whether one can argue it was right or wrong to have fought in the Iraq war, it is to understand what experiences these people went through. This book is amazing in that it is brutal, very raw and real in what is described. It is in reading these stories that one cannot help but appreciate, whether one agrees with the war or not, what the veterans went through. It is hard to read at times but it does make you think about our country, how we treat our servicemen and would or could we do it ourselves. I have had 3 brothers serve themselves and having read these stories definitely makes me appreciate the sacrifice they each made that much more. What is really hard to take in is how cruel and inhumane you realize how people can be toward each other, especially during a time of war and toward our enemy.  Sometimes being human alone is enemy enough...
