Earlier today, writer/director/producer Todd Phillips (of The Hangover fame) posted released the first image of Joaquin Phoenix in full make-up as the title character in the upcoming movie Joker. The 1980s-set origin story, which is unconnected to the DCEU, will feature the arch-criminal as stand-up comic Arthur Fleck who becomes a sociopathic killer. Producer Martin Scorsese has since left the project but Robert DeNiro (who portrayed an unhinged comedian in 1982's The King of Comedy) will appear as a talk show host alongside Brett Cullen as Thomas Wayne -- father of Bruce "the Batman" Wayne. No word yet on whether or not the famed vigilante will make an appearance.
The famous villain, most recently portrayed by Jared Leto in 2016's Suicide Squad and most memorably brought to life by Heath Ledger 10 years ago in The Dark Knight, will hit multiplexes again on October 4, 2019.
I think that this new look is ‘sick’ and Joaquin is going to make this new Joker his own. He is an amazing, very ‘into his character’ actor and I think he is going to do a great job. Whether or not the film itself will work remains to be seen of course but I am confident the Joker himself will be great.
