If you want to see a great action film based on a true story, which I did not realize going in, then see “12 Strong.” It is not an Academy Award showpiece by any means but the acting is solid, the story intriguing and the action is great.

The story is based on the first “12” members of a Special Forces team to go into Afghanistan after 9/11. They are assigned to work with the Northern Alliance to take down the Taliban and its al-Qaida allies. Well, they go in with an uneasy feeling about the relationship and how things are going to work out, not to mention that the mode of transportation they use is on horseback. But miraculously they do fight and do it well. Some of the moments in battle are hard to believe but at the end of the film you are told that the mission was secret but actually took place.

I won’t tell who does/does not return but in honor of the mission there is a statue of a Special Forces member on horseback erected at the site of the World Trade Center. Chris Hemsworth does a great job in his role as the Captain who leads the men and his fellow actors are very good as well. Definitely a good flick that does its job of entertaining you!
