"It" is One of the Best Stephen King Movie Adaptations Ever Made

Continuing in the same vein of the excellent Netflix series, 'Stranger Things', the new film version of Stephen King's novel, 'IT', is similar in many ways and succeeds on numerous fronts. It's definitely one of the best film versions of a Stephen King novel -- so that's a plus. I was nervous going into the movie because not all SK novels have translated well to screen. The other plus is that this latest version is much better, actually way better, than the television version.

For those not familiar with the story it's about '...7 young kids in Derry, Maine, who encounter an evil 'clown' that emerges from the sewer every 27 years to prey on the town's children. Banding together over the course of one horrifying summer, the friends must overcome their own personal fears to battle the murderous, bloodthirsty clown known as Pennywise.' The acting is pretty good for the most part, with the exception of one or two minor characters in the film. The camaraderie between the kids is believable so that makes you feel their desire to band together and get rid of the clown. The kids reminded me of the ones from 'Stranger Things' -- thus the reason for my reference to that show.

As far as the scares, there were a couple of pretty good moments, although there were some moments I would classify as pretty 'cheesy' as well. However, overall it was very well done. The main character to steal the show however, and to be expected, is Pennywise the Clown. Bill Skarsgard does an outstanding acting job - in fact, he's just downright creepy. This is a well made film that I look forward to seeing continue in the next chapter.
